HRD Corp Training in 2027: What HR Managers Need to Know

Prepare your 2027 training calendar with clearer approval timelines, practical learning outcomes and a plan for workplace application.

Planning HRD Corp training for 2027 starts with two decisions: when your organisation can train, and what employees should be able to do differently afterwards. A useful training calendar connects grant requirements with real business priorities.

For HR managers and Learning & Development professionals in Malaysia, selecting a course is only one part of the work. Internal approvals, participant availability, supporting documents and follow-up all need a place in the plan.

1. Build the approval timeline into your calendar.

According to HRD Corp’s official Claimable Courses guidance, public training returns to the 14-day period after grant approval from 1 January 2027, aligning with in-house training. The temporary three-day period for public training applies from 15 June to 31 December 2026.

Count from grant approval, rather than the application submission date. As a planning practice, allow additional time for internal sign-off, document preparation and any queries before confirming attendance.

The same official guidance states that claims must be submitted within six months after training completion. Check the latest requirements and your approved grant details when finalising each programme.

2. Prepare a complete training brief.

HRD Corp lists the quotation or invoice, training schedule or course content, and trainer profile among the application documents. Obtain these early and check that programme details are consistent.

Alongside the application, prepare an internal brief that answers four practical questions:

  • Who needs the training? Identify the roles and workplace challenges involved.
  • What should change? Describe an observable skill or behaviour.
  • Where will it be applied? Choose a real task, project or management decision.
  • Who will follow up? Agree how the line manager will support application.

A useful training plan begins with the workplace change you want to see.

3. Choose learning outcomes that managers can observe.

“Improve leadership” is a broad intention. “Prepare a strategy proposal that explains the opportunity, evidence, trade-offs and execution responsibilities” gives the participant and manager a clearer target.

For negotiation training, an output could be a preparation brief covering interests, alternatives and acceptable terms. For strategic communication, it could be a revised stakeholder message with a clear purpose and next step. These outputs give the learning a direct connection to daily work.

4. Connect development with business priorities.

Inspired by Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, Knightsbridge Resources connects strategic principles with practical management challenges. Your development priorities might include:

  • Business strategy: assessing opportunities, understanding the competitive environment and making deliberate choices.
  • Negotiation: preparing alternatives, understanding interests and managing difficult conversations.
  • Strategic leadership: aligning people, communicating direction and translating decisions into action.

Start with the challenge your organisation faces, then choose the learning pathway. The Sun Tzu Strategic Business Leadership programme is one option to explore for management development.

5. Plan the follow-up before training begins.

Ask each participant to select a workplace application before attending. After the programme, schedule a review with their manager to discuss what they tried, what changed and what still needs support.

A practical review could examine a stronger proposal, a better-prepared negotiation or clearer team responsibilities. The purpose is to make learning visible in the work itself.
